Introduction

Message from The Roadtrip Queen:

Two for the Road has been a dream of mine for a long time. To hit the road with a kindred soul, take the backroads, get lost, find the most incredible food in some little nitch or the dirt road side trip that reveals the most amazing view, etc. Then to share it with fellow adventurers around the world… Priceless!

Being on the open road, the wind in my hair, the sparkle in my eyes dancing in delight, music playing, watching the lines of the picture before you change, broaden and become more brilliant with each mile. This has always been a huge part of me. I am The Roadtrip Queen!  My philosophy in travel as well as life is: “It’s all about the journey and NOT the destination!” . Some… actually more than not,  think that “vacation” doesn’t start till you get there, where ever “there” is. Don’t get me wrong, if you have to take a flight when you must get somewhere in a timely manner,  is all well and good. Yet, the truth of the matter is, that by stepping on that jet plane to get to your destination,  you miss the journey… All the scenery, the discovery, the adventure and the priceless memories made by taking that shortcut.  Traveling alone is good and still has that air of adventure but to have someone that shares your love of the open road adventure… What a treasure!

Imagine for a moment: You get up while the sun is still catching its last few Z’s, travel mugs of coffee in hand, jumping in the packed car, you turn over the engine. In that simple moment your adventure has already begun. From the time you pull out of the drive and turn the car in the direction of your choosing, the journey begins to mold and come to life. The maps stay folded, the GPS disabled, eyes full of wonder, the open road ahead, the sun starting its morning climb, waking up the sky in breathtaking color. The red-tailed hawk soars over the car, sending  good travel omens your way and the morning dew glistens on everything like the diamonds in Tiffany’s! I have goosebumps as I type because that is just the beginning hours of your first day! It only gets better from there… even with the mishaps and the wrong turns, every moment becomes a part of the journal of your travels. Each day you wake up with to the excitement of what the day’s adventure will bring and memories to be made. You come home from the road, greeted by sweet kitty love and froggy/ fish hello’s from the aquarium, grateful to sleep in your bed and have coffee on the patio in your sunny spot but it won’t take long till the “desire” to hit the road takes you by the hand and you are on to the next open road adventure.

It’s a rarity to find someone that loves the desert and the open road as much as I do. One or two have come close but they still have that need to hurry to get “there” or hurry to get back to the daily mundane, never really savoring the moments and sights encountered… and that in itself dims the journey. However, in that fortuitous reconnect that the universe pushed me toward and pulled me into, there that someone was. Talking in length about it, we’ve set our imaginations on fire with thoughts of what a blast it would be. We haven’t gotten past that yet… Sometimes I think it’s a fear that holds us back. For IF we say “F it!” and make that first adventure together, then that is it. Our zeal for adventures will be all stirred up and we will have no choice but to follow the pull. And Life as we know it will turn a corner.

One day we will find the courage to venture off on that first roadtrip.  For no other reason than to have something to look back on, knowing that for one brief moment we set the fear and what everybody else wants us to do, to the sidelines. And the memories of those adventures will be brilliantly burned in our souls and we can hang on to them forever… It will also be the chance for “Two for the Road” to officially be born into the world of travel blog adventures.
